Google is aiming to bring back its webmaster Q&A video series and has extended an open invitation for questions from the public.
"Google Webmasters on Twitter: We’re looking into a series of webmaster Q&A videos. Which questions are on your mind & need covering? Let us know!"
Short Q&A videos were a significant part of Google’s webmaster outreach when Matt Cutts was head of webspam. This approach waned after Cutts departed to explore other career paths.
Instead of Q&A videos, Google has been holding regular webmaster hangouts where participants can join and ask questions. However, these hangouts, which typically last around an hour, are not an ideal substitute for the concise videos Matt Cutts used to create.
Unlike webmaster hangouts, where attendees are identified by their Google accounts, the new series of Q&A videos will allow questions to be submitted anonymously.
For Google’s Q&A submission form, the only mandatory field is “Your burning question.” Including your name and location is optional.
Google mentions that site-specific questions will not be addressed in these videos. They are seeking more generalized questions that can benefit all webmasters.
For site-specific inquiries, Google advises using the webmaster help forum.
Google’s wording in the form states: “We’re considering rolling another round of Question & Answer videos for the Google Webmaster Central YouTube channel.”
This suggests that Google has not yet fully committed to producing these videos. Could the decision depend on the quality of the questions submitted?
To increase the chances of your question being answered, it’s recommended to check Google’s webmaster central YouTube channel to ensure your question hasn’t been addressed previously.
